BRIGHT LIGHTS QUEER CITY, Fantastic Opening, Seductively Fabulous Art Show

Bright Lights, Queer City, LGBT Month

Bright Lights Queer City opened with a bang on July 13th, 2011, at Leslie-Lohman gallery in New York City's SoHo. The art show displays works by local artists like Heidi Russell, Miquel Cardenas, Dextar G. Simms, Rob Ordonez and (I'm humbled to say) yours truly, as part of this year's Fresh Fruit Festival. Curated by NYC TV personality Lady Clover Honey, and by SAG actor and recording artist Lovari, Bright Lights Queer City has attracted talented visual artists and hundreds of art lovers, community members, supporters, admirers, and fans.

"The opening was amazing," says Lady Clover Honey. "There were 600 people who attended. [...] Michael Musto of Village Voice hosted the opening and enjoyed seeing nightlife, which he has been writing about for over 25 years, viewed as art."

Lady Clover Honey explains that the name of the show was inspired by a classic movie, Bright Lights Big City, about a young writer who gets caught up in New York City's nightlight scene.

While this is not the first show curated by Lady Clover Honey--she curated another show on gender ID in 2008, also part of the Fresh Fruit Festival--Bright Nights Queer City represents the curatorial debut of recording artist, Lovari. Always enthusiastic, he doesn't miss an opportunity to praise showing artists and their work and let them know he's "so proud" of them.

Bright Nights Queer City is, indeed, unique and memorable, a collection of visual artwork displaying the unconventional, sometimes taboo but also glorious side of New York City's night scene. The show runs through the end of the week, thus offering the audience a few more days to experience the seductive beauty of Bright Lights in the City we love.
